This template is used to suppress an automated "Questionable information" message that a child was born before its parents were married. It suppresses display of the message both on the Person/Family page and on the Data Quality Issues list.

It also is a quick confirmation for subsequent readers that someone has noted that the child was born before the parents were married and confirmed that:

  • the child is placed in the correct family - for example, it is not placed in a family representing a parent and a step-parent
  • the marriage year is accurate
  • the child's birth year is accurate

How to enter

The easiest way to add this template is from the Data Quality Issues list. (See Help:Monitoring Data Quality: Filtering the list for how to display and filter this list.) Selecting the Verified button will prompt you for comments. Enter your comments and select OK, and the template, with your user id and comments, will be added to the Person talk page.

Alternately, you can add the template manually, by entering {{BirthBeforeParentsMarriage|date|username|comments}}, where

  • date = today's date (d Mmm yyyy)
  • username = your username (preferably formatted as a link to your user page - e.g., [[User:MyUserName|MyUserName]])
  • comments = why you believe the information is correct, preferably referring to sources on the Person and/or Family pages

How to use

Once you have verified that the Person and/or Family pages cite sources that confirm the relationships and dates:

  • Select the Verified button on the Data Quality Issues page. OR
  • Add the template to the Person talk page. There is no need for a heading to precede the template.

Please note that having children before marriage is normalized in some cultures, and it is preferable not to add clutter to the Person page by placing the template there.

Note: Don't place this template on a Family or Family talk page, as it won't suppress display of the message unless it is on the Person or Person talk page.
